Overview

At Launch Education Group, we understand that at any grade level, achieving one’s academic potential requires more than just “homework help.” Our philosophy is to address the elements that underlie achievement, including confidence, organizational skills, and a sturdy grasp of the academic material.

Our Approach to Academics

Elementary School

In elementary school, students must move from learning basic academic skills (e.g. literacy and computation) to more complex mathematical problem-solving and written expression. A positive experience of elementary school is important, because it helps determine a student’s attitude toward learning later in life.

After working with a Launch tutor, our students enter middle school as strong readers, proficient writers, competent mathematicians, and enthusiastic learners.

Middle School

In middle school, students must cultivate organizational and time-management skills as they move through a departmentalized learning environment for the first time. Moreover, unlike elementary school, the middle school curriculum is more greatly defined by test-taking, elaborate written work, and note-taking. Success hinges on the development of ‘student skills’ that the learner will depend on for the rest of his academic career.

Our tutors help students learn “studentship” by teaching essential study and organizational skills, while also addressing the growing complexity of schoolwork.

High School

In high school, even students with strong “studentship” can hit the wall when presented with extremely sophisticated subject matter. One evening of homework may include prep for an AP Spanish oral exam, a battery of Calculus problems, and a review of 300 years of European History.

For many of our students, one or more of these subjects is at the Honors or Advanced Placement (AP) level. Our high school tutors are specifically skilled in these courses, as well as the relevant, ‘big-picture’ student skills needed to flourish in high school. Our tutors help students stay motivated by contextualizing schoolwork in light of life-long goals – especially college admissions.
